EPA’s Climate Adaptation Plan

EPA’s 2024-2027 Climate Adaption Plan outlines key actions the agency will implement over the next four years to ensure it protects human health and the environment amidst climate change. The plan incorporates climate risk considerations into various actions in alignment with EPA’s statutory authorities. Areas of climate adaptation efforts include environmental justice, financial assistance agreements, enforcement and compliance assurance, and equitable resilience technical assistance program. The plan highlights priority actions that EPA is taking to:

Federal agencies have steadily advanced their efforts to enhance adaptive capacity and resilience throughout their operations. The Climate Adaptation Plan is a crucial component of a broader initiative involving more than twenty federal agencies. These plans collectively emphasize measures to strengthen federal facilities, employees, resources, and operations against the impacts of climate change. The plans also show how agencies support the goals and opportunities outlined in the National Climate Resilience Framework, which includes strategies for integrating natural hazards and climate resilience into property asset management and investment decisions.

EPA’s major offices each created a climate adaptation implementation plan that describes how programs and EPA regions will incorporate climate adaptation into policy. The offices will continue to work with states, local governments, and communities of all sizes to strengthen their ability to adapt to climate change. Special focus is placed on actions that provide multiple benefits, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants, enhancing public health, fostering economic growth, and promoting climate justice.

Collectively, the implementation plans outline the specific actions the EPA will undertake over the next four years in collaboration with other federal agencies and national partners, aiming to protect human health and the environment under future climate conditions.
