McMorsel: Incompatible wastes.

Less compatible than a dating app.

Incompatible wastes are wastes that when mixed together might produce heat, pressure, fire, explosion, violent reaction, toxic dusts/mist/fumes/gases, or flammable fumes/gases. Hazardous waste generators may not mix incompatible wastes in the same container [unless you comply with §265.17(b)], and you must separate hazardous waste from incompatible wastes or materials stored nearby.

How do you know which ones are incompatible? Start with 40 CFR Part 264, Appendix V. The appendix contains lists that identify various types of potentially incompatible waste along with the harmful consequences that may result from mixing them. The appendix is not meant to be exhaustive, but it’s a good place to start. Visit our website and find more compliance morsels.
